Laura Birx is the Director of Planning for ClimateWorks Foundation. She is responsible for priority setting, learning and evaluation, and strategic planning processes. Laura joined ClimateWorks in 2022 from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, where she was the Deputy Director for Strategy, Planning, and Management on the Agricultural Development team. In this role, she led the development of a strategic plan for the foundation’s climate adaptation efforts in agriculture, and oversaw their work on monitoring, learning, and evaluation. Prior to her 8 years at the Gates Foundation, she worked for the United States Agency for International Development on food security issues and served in Washington DC and Tanzania. Laura has a Master of Public Health from George Washington University and a BA from Colby College.
Sue manages ClimateWorks Operations and Planning functions, to ensure the organization is empowered by highly efficient and effective systems, processes, and operating practices. In this role, she works with internal teams, as well as the broader philanthropic and climate communities. Sue has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of executive strategic and operational roles in high tech. She was the co-founder of Spearfish Innovation, helping clients — including for-profit start-ups, Fortune 50 companies, and non-profit organizations — achieve their goals through innovation in business products, services, and processes.
